Vitafoods sets stage for ‘next generation’ nutraceuticals

 

Thousands of nutraceuticals and ingredients professionals are in Geneva this week for Vitafoods Europe.

The Natural Products Global team has been walking the showfloor, spotting trends and developments and speaking with top ingredients industry insiders.

Frequently heard buzz phrases at the 2017 event include ‘new generation’ (applied to several key categories of micronutrients and actives), ‘personalised nutrition’, ‘smart’ (-packaging, -delivery), ‘consumer-centric innovation’ and ‘clean labelling’.

Algae-based products have a high profile, as do ‘supergreens’ and current hero herb turmeric. There’s lots of interest too in CBD oil – both in the latest research evidence and regulatory status – and ayurvedic founded products. And, health claims, or no health claims, NPD and innovation in the probiotics field appears to be at an all time high, while hardy perennials like lycopene are given new twists.
