Pioneer organic beauty brand Made for Life Organics (formerly Spiezia Organics) has announced its certification as a registered B Corporation.
B Corporations (or B Corps) are a growing group of companies who are reinventing business, by pursuing purpose as well as profit. Made for Life Organics has been certified by B Lab after meeting rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.
The B Corp certification includes the whole business and covers five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, a business must score over 80 and provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices – including energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company must legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
Amanda Winwood, founder, Made for Life Organics says: “Gaining B Corp accreditation is not an easy process, but we were delighted to have gone through the audit process and reached the high scoring we achieved and also to be the first UK spa brand to achieve this. B Corp recognises businesses that have an aim alongside being commercially successful to also be a Force for Good. That has been and always will be the aim of Made for Life Organics”
Based in Cornwall, Made for Life Organics joins a community of over 3,200 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community is reflective of the UK economy with businesses from a cross section of industries and sizes. These include well-known brands like innocent, Patagonia, Pukka Herbs, Abel & Cole, Divine, and JoJo Maman Bebe. It also joins other Cornish businesses, Finisterre and Leap Design in achieving this accreditation.
Accountability and traceability test
Recent attention on transparency, traceability and sustainability in the spa industry makes Made for Life Organics’ B Corp certification even more significant. It signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in the sector. It also aligns with the ethos of the business and company founder, Amanda Winwood.
Kate Sandle, Director of Programmes and Engagement, B Lab UK, says: “We are delighted to welcome Made for Life Organics to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates, who believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Made for Life Organics are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward”.
“Business is a powerful force, and one that – as these companies are showing – can be used for good. Welcoming Made for Life Organics is a particularly exciting moment because we’ve seen that the spa industry is in particular need of a shake-up.”
