Swedish health foods manufacturer and brand owner Midsona is set to acquire Alimentation Santé – a leading player in organic and plant-based foods in France and Spain – in a deal worth €57 million.
The Malmö-based company says it intends to acquire the entire share capital in Alimentation Santé SAS from Panzani SAS, a subsidiary of Ebro Foods, SA.
The acquisition establishes a strategically important platform for Midsona’s continued European expansion. In May 2018 the company acquired the German organic pioneer brand Davert for €48.5 million.
Midsona says that Alimentation Santé’s product portfolio, with the leading brands Celnat and Vegetalia as well as the newer, award-winning brand Happy Bio, strengthens and complements its own existing organic and plant-based portfolio. In addition, Alimentation Santé offer its new owner new production opportunities in attractive segments such as roasted grains and plant-based meat alternatives, such as veggie burgers.
Alimentation Santé is on course to achieve sales of approximately €40 million in 2019. Business synergies under the new deal are expected to have an annual effect of approximately €2 million, fully realized in 2021.
“Alimentation Santé is an important platform for further growth in France, Spain and other southern European markets”
“Following the successful expansion of our leading organic and plant-based brands throughout the Nordic region, we are now aiming to become a leader in Europe. The acquisition of Davert last year provided us with an important platform in the DACH region, which we recently complemented by the addition of Eisblümerl. Alimentation Santé is an important platform for further growth in France, Spain and other southern European markets.”, says Peter Åsberg, CEO of Midsona.
“With the decision to focus on our core business, we are delighted that Alimentation Santé will merge with Midsona, which we see as an ideal future owner of the company”, says Xavier Reischer, CEO of Panzani.
Alimentation Santé’s wholly-owned subsidiaries include the organic and plant-based food companies Celnat in France and Vegetalia and Satoki in Spain. The company has a broad product portfolio and the products are 100 percent organic. Alimentation Santé is the market leader in categories such as breakfast products and herbal meat alternatives such as veggie burgers and vegetable protein such as tofu, seitan and tempeh.
