The UK organic industry has been celebrating its biggest and most successful Wake Up To Organic promotion, with over 14,000 mini organic breakfasts served on the day (June 13th).
Organised by the Organic Trade Board (OTB), the annual event sees hundreds of independent stores and cafés giving away free organic breakfasts with the aim of showing consumers how easy is to make switch to organic.
Wake Up To Organic campaign organiser, Tilly Ashton, said that this year’s event had been “the biggest and most successful to date”.
2018 highlights:
- 281 events – up 11% on 2017
- 14,000 mini organic breakfasts served – up 29% on 2017
- 6.5m reach on social media
- 2.8m reach on Instgram alone
One of the stores taking part this year was Seasons, based in Forest Row, Sussex (see video). Team member Bonnie Ellis told NPG why the store got involved: “Wake Up To Organic is a great way to open doors, and introduce people to organic, and show then how great it tastes and why it’s actually such good value for money. We’ve got lots of offices around us and bang on eight o’clock this morning we had lots of people dropping by to claim their free breakfast!
“We’ve had fantastic support from suppliers, with giveaways from Rude Health, James White, Clearspring, Infinity Foods, Dove’s Farm, Lavera and Yeo Valley. And our own team, working in the kitchen, have really done us proud.
Also taking part again this year was As Nature Intended, whose six London store all did something slightly different. MD Jeff Martin said: “Wake Up To Organic works perfectly for us. We get lots of happy customers and commuters, and plenty of people telling their colleagues to make sure they don’t miss out on a very nice organic breakfast. And our staff also get the chance to talk more about organic farming, organic products and why these products are different. We do have very passionate colleagues who love spreading the organic message!”
Natural Products Global publisher Diversified also staged its own Wake Up To Organic event at our Brighton offices (pictured opposite),here in the UK, with delicious organic ingredients supplied by nearby Infinity Foods.
