Carrefour Brazil SA says it will in increase shelf-space for organic products by 85% in 2019 as part of a “transitioning” to healthier food retailing.
The local subsidiary of Paris, France -headquartered international multinational Carrefour Group says it is responding to growing consumer interest in healthier and natural food.
Carrefour Group says it sees retail as “an agent of transformation and awareness about the importance of healthy and sustainable food with its customers, partners and employees”.
Aligned with this objective, the company last year unveiled its new global plan – Carrefour 2022 – one of the main goals of which is to lead the “food transition” – a movement to expand the supply of quality food at a fair price, to revitalize the Carrefour brand’s own product range with a focus on healthiness, and to actively contribute to the supply of local and organic products”.
The Group has become increasingly active in organic through its French and, more recently, Spanish stores. Last year it took part in the Bio Brazil Fair, the largest organic product trade show in Latin America.
