The Sweden-based health foods manufacturer and brand owner Midsona has added German organic spreads specialist Eisblümerl to its fast-growing portfolio.
The acquisition, for a reported €7.8 million, was made through Midsona’s German organic food business Davert (acquired by Midsona in 2018 for €48.5 million).
Eisblümerl is a 20-year old company with an annual turnover of around €10 million and 40 employees. It produces a wide range of organic nut, nougat and chocolate spreads.
“We see the acquisition as a very attractive addition to our existing platform Davert. Eisblümerl has both complementary quality products and production capacity, which is expected to provide attractive exchange on our existing structure,” Midsona CEO Peter Åsberg said.
The deal adds to Midsona’s growing haul of pioneer organic brands. In July this year, the Malmö-based company announced that it was poised to acquire leading European plant-based food brand Alimentation Santé in a deal worth €57 million.
The latest deal further cements Midsona’s position as a market leader in natural and organic across the Nordic region. In 2018, the company reported a turnover of €266 million. Its other brands include Urtekram, Kung Markatta, Helios and Friggs. Earlier in the year the company announced it was partnering with Stockholm-based organic food retailer Paradiset to launch a new consumer brand – ‘Everyday by Paradiset’.
