Interview with Remko Vogelenzang, Bobeldijk Food Group, Managing Director
Tell us a bit about your company
Bobeldijk Food Group used to be a butchers shop, and has grown into a producer of all kinds of meat products. Since the 1st of January 2020, we stopped meat production and now only produce plant-based products! We produce for retail and foodservice for both our Vegafit brand and private label customers, and now have a product range of 60+ different products under the categories Vegan, Vegetarian and Organic (Vegan and Vegetarian) – on the shows exhibitor list.
Tell us about your latest product(s), promotions or launches visitors can hope to see on your stand.
Since we have a strong base with regular products like falafel, nuggets, burgers and schnitzels, we have recently focused on developing more innovative products. This is where our excitement really hit the roof!
We have produced a brand new vegan fish line which we are very proud of. The sales of vegan fish have increased by 623% in the past two years in Germany (research by ProVeg). Plant-based fish is the most lucrative and promising product group in plant-based food, ProVeg indicates. Our Product Developers directly saw the opportunity to develop something they haven’t before. Using a special fiber, we managed to mimic the characteristic texture of fish as close as possible as a ‘real’ fish fillet and fish bites. We added a batter to make it crispy and even more recognizable. Besides fish fillets and fish bites, we developed also a new fish burger, fish sticks and fish nuggets. You can taste our fish bites at our stand C60!
If you are stopping by to taste our vegan fish bites, stay a little longer to taste two of our new innovations too! Our raw burger and chicken tenders. When walking through the supermarket, you can spot a lot of new raw vegan burgers, as it’s a real trend. Customers have been used to the precooked burger for a long time now, and are now searching for a burger with a more ‘fresh’ appearance, which is what our raw burger offers.
Not ready to eat, but ready to heat. This way, consumers experience the joy of cooking something themselves, starting with a fresh product, without putting much effort in the preparing process.
Our chicken tenders are responding to the convenience trend. A vegan equivalent to chicken wings. Easy to prepare and easy to eat!
Why was Eco Life Scandinavia 2021 an unmissable opportunity for you?
We are selling products around Europe, for example The Netherlands, Germany, the UK, France and Spain. Scandinavia for us is an unknown territory. Therefore, this is a perfect opportunity for us to learn more about the Scandinavian market, and to meet people who can tell us more about it.
