At the BIOFACH joint booth of the Italian Trade Agency, 62 businesses from all over Italy will present the culinary delicacies they have to offer.
Italy is leading the field when it comes to organically grown produce
Italy counts among the leading producers of organic products worldwide. Domestic sales as well as exports have continuously grown during the past years. With an export volume estimated at 3.37 billion euros in 2022 (+ 16% in comparison with 2021), Italy is currently holding first place in the ranking of European exporting nations and second place in a worldwide comparison.
Italian joint booth at BIOFACH: regional variety and authentic enjoyment

For many years, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) has had a joint booth at BIOFACH. As the Government Agency for Foreign Trade, the ITA is tasked to promote the economic and trade relations between Italy and other nations, and to support Italian producers and manufacturers in their marketing of gourmet products “Made in Italy“, as well as in other areas.
This year, 62 companies from almost all parts of Italy will present their offers of organically produced culinary delicacies at the ITA joint booth at BIOFACH 2023. They are from the 17 Italian regions Abruzzo, Apulia, Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Calabria, Campania, Lazio, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto.

Their portfolio comprises of exquisite olive oils and vinegar specialties, fresh and dried pasta, bakery products, sweet and salty snacks, sauces and pestos, spreads, coffee, lemonades, juices, wines, truffles, pickled or canned fruit and vegetables and much more – from exclusively manufactured products to new, original ingredients, e.g. truffle flakes or prickly pear extracts in the form of a gel or powder. Quite a few of the presented products bear one of the two EU seals of approval „protected designation of origin“ or „protected geographical indication”.
”With 62 exhibiting manufacturers at our joint booth we have achieved a new record this year,” says Francesco Alfonsi, the director of the Italian Trade Agency in Berlin. “Alongside established firms, we are pleased to also welcome several newcomers, and we look forward to supporting their entry into the international market.“ At the same time, the increasing interest of Italian firms to take part in BIOFACH points to the impressive dynamics of the Italian sector for organically cultivated produce, that has excellent growth rates in Europe-wide comparison.
Continuous growth despite global crises
With a growth of 181% since 2012, Italian export volume has almost tripled over ten years. The number of certified producers is also rising continuously. For the year 2021 another increase of 5.4% to 86,144 companies has been reported.
Expansion of sustainable usable agricultural area: Italy on the right track

The organically farmed area in Italy stood at 2.2 million hectares in 2021. Compared to the other countries of the European Union, Italy thus comes behind Spain and France and in front of Germany and Austria in this regard. According to Sinab (National System of Information for Organic Farming) this area has almost doubled since 2010. The share of the organically farmed areas currently stands at 17.4% (16.6% in 2020). If this trend continues, a share of 25% will be reached by the year 2030, which corresponds to the goals of the European “Green Deal“.
Organic products from Italy will meet all expectations. Please find out for yourself! We are very much looking forward to your visit!
