Iconic US-based natural soap brand Dr Bronner’s shuttered its websites globally for a day last month to mark the beginning of the Global Climate Strike.
“Dr. Bronner’s is a global brand doing business in over 30 countries on nearly every continent. Our partners around the world are proud to unite in solidarity and support the young climate strikers on the streets around and world demanding an end to the age of fossil fuels,” said Dr Bronner’s president Michael Bronner.
In the US, Dr. Bronner’s supported employees in joining local protests. The company’s volunteer Green Team hosted a “Buy-Nothing” pop-up free store at Dr. Bronner’s headquarters to encourage the give and take of clothing and other goods among staff over the period September 23-27.
“In light of how the climate crisis is directly linked to the immigration crisis around the world, this is our moment to appeal to the humanity in each other”
In countries like Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Switzerland, the UK, and Japan, the company’s partners took part in protests, educating staff, and shutting down their websites to demonstrate the need to disrupt business as usual in response to the climate crisis.
“Together we acknowledge that there is more that unites us than divides us,” says Alana Pezzotti, Director of Dr. Bronner’s Mexico. “In light of how the climate crisis is directly linked to the immigration crisis around the world, this is our moment to appeal to the humanity in each other and recognize the need to transcend borders, respect existence, and create the most equitable solutions in preparing for a livable future.”
In Germany, Dr. Bronner’s flagship store in Berlin donated all profits from September 20 to Fridays For Future. The store also acted as an information and welcome centre for anyone participating in climate strike-related protests and actions in Berlin on September 20.
