US supermarket giant Walmart is partnering with start-up organic fast food restaurant business Grown.
The healthy eating chain’s second store has just opened at Walmart’s Narcoosee Road branch in Orlando Florida.
A far cry from Walmart’s usual fast food concessions – think McDonald’s or Dunkin Donuts – the sleek, minimalist in-store branch of Grown boasts a menu offers “100% organic fast-food focusing on nutrient-dense, farm-to-fork cuisine”.
Launched in 2016, Grown is the brainchild of TV host Shannon Allen. The Grown restaurant concept evolved from her television show, The Pre-Game Meal, inspired by 18 years of preparing optimal game day meals for her husband her husband, Ray Allen (a two-time NBA champion).
Grown’s extensive farm network delivers organic, local and sustainable ingredients without harmful products like GMOs, preservatives, hormones, or processed sugar
“Practicing sustainability beyond the kitchen”, Grown utilizes pulp-free and compostable paper products, 100% recyclable cups, BPA-free storage containers, and plantable kids meal packaging that encourages Grown’s youngest guests to cultivate their own gardens.
Retail commentators in the US see the new partnership as further evidence of major grocery retailers to grab a bigger slice of the burgeoning organic market. “Operating grown inside of Walmart makes the store accessible to every family, regardless of their mean income, making the move a game-changer for consumers,” a Walmart representative told Delish.
