Helsinki-based green packing specialist Sulapac has scooped a prestigious Scanstar Award.
The Scanstar Award is given by the Scandinavian Packaging Association
Sulapac won the award with its Kohinoor jewellery packaging by Finnish jewellery and silverware company Kultakeskus.
Giving its verdict, the Scanstar jury said that Sulapac’s packaging, gave “added value to the products andis a very nice solution and a perfect fit for luxury products and brands with ecological values.”
Sulapac is a Finnish material innovation, made of FSC-certified wood and natural binders. It claims all the benefits of plastic, yet it biodegrades completely without the challenges brought by microplastic. Plastic manufacturers can use their existing machinery with the material, without the need to build new factories. 100%
biodegradable packaging outperforms other sustainable alternatives in terms of barrier properties, fast biodegradation and unique look.
“It is always great to work with new materials, but this was something that is special and can truly change the world. I wanted to create a luxurious design which feels good while ensuring that woodchips are very visible representing the source of the raw material”, says designer Ilkka Harju.
“Sulapac packaging is a fresh and modern way to pack diamond jewellery. The ecological values and biodegradability are important factors, but we also appreciate the design which inspires us to present our diamond jewellery in the new light. With Sulapac packaging we want to remind our customers that cherishing the beauty and respecting the environment are not contradictory”, says Ilkka Ruohola chairman of Kultakeskus.
