In our Speaker Spotlight series, get to know our speakers before you see them. Find out what trends Jessi Baker MBE predicts this year, who they admire in the industry, and why you should attend their session at Natural & Organic Products Europe in April.
What do you see as key trends for natural & organic in the coming year?
The Soil Association’s most recent Organic Market Report shared that the UK organic market is still growing, even in these difficult times. Natural and organic products will have to work harder to sell their benefits for health but also in protecting nature and climate.
I believe brands will need to be more transparent on the work they are doing and ensure those benefits are accessible to shoppers through retail, social and wherever else they are shopping.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your role and the most challenging?
Creating systemic change to commerce through software. I’m a huge believer in the power of tech to help us come together to solve hard problems and that’s exactly what we are doing at Provenance. Seeing the system work is hugely satisfying, but it’s been a challenging road to get to where we are today. I spent a long time educating the market on the benefits of transparency and perils of greenwash. This continues to be a challenge as not all brands are focused on sustainability.
How important is Natural & Organic Products Europe trade show to the you/industry?
It’s a great chance to meet brands and learn from each other! I’ve attended many years now and always valued the opportunity to connect and learn.
Why should visitors attend your session at the show?
At a time where nearly 80% of beauty shoppers have doubts about whether to trust the industry’s sustainability claims, I am excited to share insights from our research alongside latest data on shopper preferences. If you’re a brand or retailer looking to help your customers shop with their values this is a must attend session!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
How you see is what you get.
