Barcelona plant-based startup Heura will begin a planned expansion into the Latin American market when it launches in Chile in June.
Heura claims to be the fastest growing European startup in the plant-based meat industry, reporting 450% growth last year. Founded by Marc Coloma and Bernat Añaños on Earth Day 2017, the company has a bold ambition to shift eating habits to a “more sustainable food system that protects what society values the most – animals, health, the planet and our culinary heritage”.
The activist start-up says it has already made its positive impact on the industry. Añaños explains: “We have already saved 276,643 animals since we started and this year we hope to reach 1,500,000 with the growth figures that we are reaching”.
Heura points out that consumption of animal products represents up to 75% of gas emissions from the food industry. Añaños adds: “Thanks to Heura’s consumption of plant based protein, to date we have already saved more than 3.6 million kg of CO2, the equivalent of driving 375 times around the world by car.”
“These figures give us encouragement to continue working hard on our international expansion that has Chile as its next destination, stepping for the first time in the Latin American market this June,” concludes Coloma.
